Mr. Abel G. Arce, a devoted Korean War veteran and a beloved member of the Laredo, Texas community, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at the age of 94. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, hard work, and kindness that will forever be cherished.
Abel proudly served his country during the Korean War, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to protecting the freedoms we hold dear. After his military service, he embarked on a remarkable 26-year career at Uniroyal Testing Grounds, where his dedication and diligence were evident to all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Abel’s heart belonged to the great outdoors, ranching, and farming. He had a unique passion for tending to the land and nurturing its bounty. His skillful hands were not limited to the fields alone; Abel was known for his remarkable ability to repair any item presented to him, a testament to his resourcefulness and willingness to lend a helping hand to others.
However, it was Abel’s generous spirit that truly set him apart. He had a warm heart and an open door, always ready to offer food and hospitality to anyone who crossed his path. His selflessness touched the lives of many, making him a pillar of his community.
Abel Arce’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of service, hard work, and generosity will continue to inspire us all. Abel Arce is survived by his loving family and friends who will forever carry his spirit with them. May he rest in peace, and may his memory be a source of comfort and strength during this difficult time.
He was preceded in death by his parents Isidro Arce and Rosalia Rendon De Arce, sisters Aurora A. Sanchez, Josefina A. Segovia, brothers Alfredo S. Arce, Armando I. Arce, and Antonio S. Arce.
Mr. Arce is survived by his loving wife of 63 years of marriage Hilda R. Arce, children Abel G. (Adriana) Arce Jr., Isidro A. (Alice) Arce, Arabella I. (Frank) Castillo, Alfonso A. (Rosie) Arce, Anna L. (Juan) Mercado, and Armando R. (Melissa) Arce. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, sister Anita A. (†Lucio) Vidaurri, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Pallbearers will be Abel Arce Jr., Isidro Arce, Alfonso Arce, Armando Arce, Frank Castillo, and Juan Mercado.The family will receive condolences on Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Aguero Funeral Home and Crematorium, 4402 E. Saunders St., Laredo, TX 78041.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. from Aguero Funeral Home and Crematorium to Christ the King Catholic Church for a Holy Mass at 10:00 a.m.
Interment will follow at the family plot in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
