Father Jacinto Olguin, a cherished priest and dedicated servant of the Church, passed into eternal life on August 28, 2024, in Harlingen, Texas. He was 85 years old.
Born in Rio Verde, San Luis Potosi, on September 11, 1938, Father Olguin was the youngest of nine children. He is preceded in death by his siblings Andrés, Julieta, Justino, Reymunda, Ma. Magdalena, Mateo, and Honoria Olguin. He is survived by his youngest brother, Antonio Olguin, and his wife, Linda Olguin. He is also survived by his beloved nephew Norberto Martinez, his wife Cindy, and their children Olivia, Yazmine, and Norberto Isaac Martinez, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Father Olguin was ordained on June 9, 1974, by Archbishop Flores in San Luis Potosi. He celebrated his first Mass in San Francisco de Asis, the small town where he grew up. His ministry began in El Campo, Texas, at Saint Robert's Catholic Church, where he made a
significant impact by starting a radio program and later a television program that aired from Victoria, Texas. He also actively collaborated with the parishioners in the Charismatic Movement.
In 1987, Father Olguin received orders to serve at St. Patrick's Church in Bloomington, Texas, where he continued his work with the TV and radio ministry. In 2000, he took a sabbatical year to study in Rome, enriching his spiritual and theological knowledge. Upon his return, he resumed his ministry in the Diocese of Victoria, Texas. During this time, he visited his cherished nephew, Norberto, in Laredo. He was invited to celebrate Mass and assist at various parishes and had the honor of meeting the Most Reverend Bishop Tamayo, who gave him the opportunity to join the Diocese of Laredo. Father Olguin served as the Rector of San Agustin Cathedral and later a parochial vicar at Blessed Sacrament Parish. In 2012, Father Olguin became the parochial vicar at Saint Patrick's Church, contributing to various community organizations.
Father Olguin was known for his deep love of travel, his dedication to his family, and his unwavering commitment to serving his parishioners. His work and life were a testament to his devotion to the people he served, always giving of himself with boundless energy and compassion.
Father Olguin's legacy of faith, service, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Pallbearers will be Antonio Olguin, Norberto Martinez, Isaac Martinez, Aldo Almaraz, Noel Olguin, and Gerardo Olguin.

A vigil for Father Olguin will be held Monday, September 2, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at San Agustin Cathedral, 201 San Agustin Ave., Laredo, TX 78040. Vespers, Vigil Service and Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at San Agustin Cathedral, 201 San Agustin Ave., Laredo, TX 78040.
Interment will follow at the San Agustin section in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
