Maria S. Lopez

August 15, 1929 — February 26, 2022

Our beloved mother, Maria S. Lopez, 92, entered peacefully into eternal rest on February 26, 2022, after a long battle with liver disease. Maria passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 15, 1929, in Mesa, Arizona, and during the depression, her parents moved to Nuevo Laredo where they established a small grocery store. Our precious mom devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. In her early 20’s, she joined her husband while traveling with the migrant workers until they settled in Milwaukee and later in Los Angeles. At a young age she started singing with family and friends, but it wasn’t until she lived in L.A. that she was able to express these talents at her neighborhood Jamaica’s, singing her ranchero/bolero songs. When she moved to Laredo, she joined a Rondalla group where she was an active participant for many years as well as being a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church choir until the age of 89.Our mom was the neighborhood Avon lady for almost 30 years, making her last order just recently. At one time she also sold Home Interior and Stanley home products. She was an avid bingo player, Dallas Cowboy fan and maquinita gambler. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sixto and Benita Sandoval, her beloved sons, Richard and Adolfo Lopez, her husband Roberto G. Lopez, and daughter-in-law Dora Lopez. She is survived by her children Blanca (Robert+) Griessel, Robert (Susie) Lopez, Patricia (Ricardo) Rodriguez, Angel (Dannette) Lopez and Valerie (Hugo) Torres, surviving grandchildren, Monique Lopez of CA, Darlene Rogers (Justin), Bryant (Karen) Griessel, Monica Bondoc, Ricky Rodriquez (Marty), Selina Rodriguez (Max), Ricardo Lopez (Claudia) & Elaine Lopez of CA.
