Sonya Ann Cox, 84, passed away peacefully with her sons by her side, on December 23, 2022.Sonya was born on November 2, 1938 in a small farming community of rural Rawlins County Kansas to the late Albert and Maxine Sramek.Sonya lived most of her life in Laredo and retired from Central Power & Light Company in 1986 after a 20 year career. She enjoyed her retirement years in Reno, Nevada, Uvalde and Devine, Texas.Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Craig (Tammy) Cox and Ward (Salome) Cox; grandchildren, James (Gina) Cox, Terrie (Guy) Nowlin, Zachary Cox, A.J. Kraus and Tyler (Martie) Kraus; great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Mylee Cox, Kai and Corbyn Nowlin and Troy and Candie Kraus.She is preceded in death by her sister Carolyn Johnson of Reno, Nevada.Sonya’s family gives thanks to Julia Flores, her loving caregiver of many years, as well as Melody Callaway, her caregiver during her final months of living in Devine, Texas. Great appreciation also goes to Dr. Adonis Zuniga-Goldwater and also her nurses and caregivers at Laredo Nursing and Rehab and Altus Hospice Care.Services have been entrusted to Leonard Funeral Homes of Carrizo Springs, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 28th at Big Wells Cemetery with Rev. Candice Parry of First United Methodist Church in Carrizo Springs officiating.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in memory of Sonya.
