He was 57.Vidal was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, mentor, and friend. Vidal married his high school sweetheart, Maricela Perez Cantu, in 1987 and together they welcomed their daughter, Diana Cantu Corcoran, and son, Vidal A. Cantu Jr., in the years following.Vidal’s dedication, drive and love for work led him to an accomplished career in purchasing, sales and management at Clark Hardware, the family business which his father-in-law, Raymundo Perez, started. Together with his family, he helped the business reach new heights. No task was too big or small. In his eyes, every person that walked in the door deserved the best care, attention, and respect. In the last few months of his life, he began working alongside his parents at Cantu Interiors, a longstanding local business that they started from the ground up. He was a hardworking businessman and always went the extra mile for those he served.A devout Catholic and devoted servant of his community, Vidal was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Laredo all of his life. His spirituality was unwavering and truly guided him in everything that he did. He served his parish in numerous capacities and was involved in various local, religious, and philanthropic organizations. He served as president of the board at St. Augustine School, was a board member of the Catholic Charities-Diocese of Laredo and played vital roles in programs such as ACTS Retreat and the Knights of Columbus. As a faith-filled Catholic, he guided many spiritually through his involvement in these programs.Vidal was a role model to many and always found a way to make a positive impact on the people around him, most especially the youth. He genuinely enjoyed teaching, guiding, and sharing his time with others, as shown through his involvement in clubs like 4H Shooting Sports, Cub Scouts, Optimist Little League, Laredo Jr. Bucks, and CCA.A true renaissance man, he had diverse interests, with a keen curiosity and a continual desire to expand the breadth of his knowledge and experience. He had a sharp intellect and loved sharing his knowledge and passions with everyone around him. Vidal lived wholeheartedly. He was a man who always put others before himself.Of all the aspects of his life, his family was the most important. He was a patriarch in the best sense of the word, standing at the ready for his wife, children, parents, and siblings. Most of all, he was an incredibly adoring and committed husband.
